Collections Specialist - Southfield, MI

A well-established organization in the legal and financial services sector is seeking a skilled Collections Specialist to join their Southfield-based team. This position is ideal for a seasoned professional with a strong background in consumer debt recovery, negotiation, and regulatory compliance. Candidates must bring at least 3 years of experience and a commitment to delivering results with professionalism and integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contact consumers to collect outstanding debts through phone, email, and written correspondence
  • Negotiate payment plans and settlements that are compliant and mutually beneficial
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all account activity and communications
  • Monitor account status and proactively address potential collection challenges
  • Utilize skip-tracing tools and resources to locate and verify debtor information
  • Ensure compliance with FDCPA and all relevant state and federal regulations
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for asset recovery, including garnishments
  • Review credit applications and supporting documentation to inform collection efforts
  • Maintain a respectful and professional approach in all interactions with account holders

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in consumer debt collections
  • Strong understanding of FDCPA and legal collection processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); CLS system knowledge is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple accounts effectively
  • Strong problem-solving and investigative skills
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently and in a team setting
